Meeting with Nicky Morgan, the Secretary of State for Education

On  Saturday, 23rd of September Dilwyn Roberts-Young, Deputy General Secretary of UCAC, met with Nicky Morgan, the Secretray of State for Education.

The meeting, attended with other unions and associations, was the first in a series of meetings which continue the discussions that took place with the Department for Education before the summer break.

Over the coming months UCAC will strongly represent teachers in Wales on matters relating to pay and conditions of service, workload and accountability. UCAC continues to be in dispute with Westminster on changes to salary and pension and are attending further meetings in order to bring the dispute to a close.

Pay and conditions of service is implemented by the government in Westmister but over the past few months the political climate has changed dramatically. The Welsh government is recognising the need to take responsibility for matters relating to Wales. As a union we are working on behalf of our members on the issues that have already been devolved. We will also continue to represent our members on the crucial discussions taking place in London in order to ensure fair play for teachers in Wales.
