Ballot for strike action in the Further Education sector

UCAC is balloting members for industrial action in the Further Education sector and is working with other members of the Joint Trade Unions in Further Education Group to organise ballots at the same time. 

The decision to ballot was taken following the unreasonable response of Colegau Cymru Board, representing the employers, to a pay claim for 3% in the sector. When news was received about a pay freeze and the employers’ side refused further discussion, the unions decided to hold an indicative ballot, followed by an official ballot.

 

All staff in the Further Education sector (apart from many Principals) have faced a real terms pay cut of approx. 18% during the last six years.

 

The ballot will close on 5th January. UCAC urges members to use their vote.

 

The Joint Trade Union group will be meeting in the New Year and UCAC’s Further Education Department will meet on 9th January to discuss the ballot results and other developments within the sector.
