Advice to UCAC members during strike action by other unions

What is the situation of UCAC members in schools during strike action by members of other unions?

UCAC members should not act in any way that may be interpreted as undermining the other unions' industrial action:

If the establishment is open, teachers are expected to work as normal and perform their normal duties
Head teachers should not ask, or expect, teachers or support staff to undertake the duties of those staff members on strike
UCAC members should not take on any duties that are additional to their normal work - especially if those duties are normally undertaken by a person taking industrial action
The head teacher may give specific work to staff who are not on strike, to carry out during the day of the strike
But the head teacher should not reschedule an event, such as Inset Day, to be held on that day, and put those who are striking at a disadvantage
If the above rules are not adhered to, individuals in breach of their contract, and the union, could face legal processes.
